Restroom Renovation

This winter, we will be working on the renovation of our public restroom on the first floor of the Woodlawn home. The impact of COVID-19 slowed our revenues and slowed down projects to beautify the home. We received a grant from the Illinois Humanities Society allowing us to reallocate funds originally targeted to pay the mortgage, thus, allowing the grant to pay the mortgage and other money to pay for the renovation of the restroom.

Terry Maggart, Woodlawn Farm Museum Chairperson, and Dr. Barbara Suelter, Treasurer, accepted a check on behalf of the Underground Railroad Committee from the Illinois Electric Cooperative Regional Director Kevin Klein and Board President Thomas Meecham III for $2,500.

We also received a donation from the Illinois Electric Cooperative to assist with the restroom renovation. In June 2022 after their annual meeting, a letter was written to the Cooperative requesting a donation for this project, and we were thrilled when a check for $2,500 arrived to assist us.

Needless to say, restroom renovations are always expensive efforts, and fundraising is ongoing. The renovation will include the expansion of the space as well as new fixtures and grab bars.
